Über die Unfreiheit der Forschung Das Neue verursacht in der Industrie und in der Forschung immer wieder dieselben Muster von Veränderungsverweigerung. Alles hat seine Zeit. In meiner Assistentenzeit gab es wütende Diskussionen, ob ein Algorithmus, der etwas berechnet, was früher noch nicht ging, „eine Diplomarbeit sein könnte“. Nein, war die amtliche Meinung. Eine Diplomarbeit in Mathematik muss etwas beweisen. Sonst gilt es nicht. Algorithmen sind unwissenschaftlich. Heuristiken sind unwissenschaftlich. Noch früher, als ich studierte: Was, glauben Sie, hätten die 68er gesagt, wenn wir Probleme von Industriekonzernen hätten lösen wollen, um damit zu promovieren?
