I suppose none of my students will die if I don’t notice they aren’t exuding friendliness, but they might if I fail to notice they’ve stopped breathing. I’m a bit frightened by the two that have to carry Epi-pens with them. It’s OK for mum and dad to keep an eye on one, two or three, but I’ve got nearly 30 to watch and half of them have an illness. I’m not sure I have the training or experience to deal with all of this. One could be forgiven for suspecting that the large number of students identified with allergies, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and the like is the product of ‘helicopter’ parents hovering over children and fussing about every minor ailment.
